Richard L. Summers Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Research award
Dr. Vinayak "Vinny" Nahar was nominated and selected to receive this year’s Richard L. Summers Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Research award. The award will be presented at the Research Excellence Award ceremony at UMMC on November 12th. Congratulations, Dr. Nahar!
Mississippi State Medical Association (MSMA) - Community Impact Awards
This year, in September, during Women in Medicine month, the MSMA asked members to submit the names of women physicians making a difference in their communities and in medicine. We are proud to announce that two of our faculty members, Drs. Amy Flischel and Thy Huynh, were recognized to reflect the impact they have had in advancing healthcare in Mississippi. Please join us in congratulating Drs. Amy Flischel and Thy Huynh!
MSMA proudly recognized Dr. Amy Flischel, writing, "[Her] colleagues describe her as a phenomenal physician, mentor, and leader. From her years of service in the Navy to her work at UMMC caring for the sickest dermatology patients, Dr. Flischel has dedicated her career to advancing patient care and access. She is also a passionate educator and mentor, guiding residents and championing teledermatology to reach patients in underserved areas. Her compassion, expertise, and leadership make her a true inspiration in medicine.
MSMA proudly recognized Dr. Thy N. Huynh for her dedication to advancing pediatric dermatology in Mississippi. The MSMA writes, "Dr. Huynh has expanded access to specialty care for underserved children, advanced research on hidradenitis suppurativa, and developed innovative virtual education programs to improve early diagnosis in rural communities. As a mentor and advocate, she inspires future physicians while championing equity and excellence in care—an outstanding example of the impact women bring to medicine."
Phi Kappa Phi - School of Graduate Studies in Health Sciences
The School of Graduate Studies in Health Sciences recently introduced the 2025 Phi Kappa Phi inductees, recognizing researchers who have published in prestigious journals. Dermatology PGY3 resident Dr. Summer Morrissette received this distinction alongside her peers Sheetal Chowdhury, Juliana Sitta, and Ashley Johnson. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Morrissette!
